Paul! You fool! There’s some cracking directors commentaries (admittedly there’s a lot of shit ones) but for films that you’re interested in the making of (like John Carpenter and Kurt Russell on The Thing) or just for having a fun time (Brian Blessed on Flash Gordon or Robert Downey aunt not breaking character for Tropic Thunder) there’s a whole range of really cool ones. i usually treat them like a podcast and listen when I’m in the middle of pissing about on the internet or doing some admin. It makes the time fly! Anyway, to catagorize films I love I don’t have a system as such but more of a feeling. For Example, I own Tenet which isn’t my favourite film by any stretch but I knew I’d want to watch it multiple times to get all the nuances and secrets and know it looks and sounds stunning in 4K. i also always buy DC films because of the sheer spectacle and I want them in the best possible quality and be able to watch them whenever I want, even if the wifi is down. I actually don’t own some of my favourite films in 4k simply because I know the quality won’t warrant it. Like Chinatown, I love it (Roman Polanski is scum i know but Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway and Robert Towne’s amazing script are reasons to love it) but I only own the standard collectors blu ray because I used to have the special edition dvd but it was basically the same quality, same extras and the film is more about dialogue and storytelling than spectacle so I doubt I’ll ever upscale. Does any of that make sense? haha
